Development of an autonomous unmanned aerial system to collect time-stamped samples from the atmosphere and localize potential pathogen sources

چکیده
This paper presents the hardware development and testing of a new concept for air sampling via the integration of a prototype spore trap onboard Unmanned Aerial System (UAS). We propose the integration of a prototype spore trap onboard UAS to allow multiple capture of spore of pathogens in single remote locations at high or low altitude; otherwise not possible with stationary sampling devices. We also demonstrate the capability of this system for the capture of multiple time-stamped samples during a single mission. Wind tunnel testing was followed by simulation and flight testing was conducted to measure and quantify the spread during simulated airborne air sampling operations. During autonomous operations, the onboard autopilot commands the servo to rotate the sampling device to a new indexed location once the UAS vehicle reaches the predefined waypoint or set of waypoints (which represents the region of interest). Time stamped UAS data is continuously logged during the flight to assist with analysis of the particles collected. Testing and validation of the autopilot and spore trap integration, functionality and performance is described. These tools may enhance the ability to detect new incursions of spores.

Fuzzy Adaptive Control of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle for Carrying Time-Varying Cargo on Predefined Path
At present, the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has been increased dramatically. The reasons for this development are cheapness, smallness, simplicity, and diversity of missions. The simplicity of guidance and control of multi-rotor drones is that they are equipped with an autopilot system. This system is responsible for flying control. UAVs do not have a high weight and often have three...
متن کاملSmall fluctuations in the recovery of fusaria across consecutive sampling intervals with unmanned aircraft 100 m above ground level
The aerobiology of fungi in the genus Fusarium is poorly understood. Recent work has highlighted the role of Lagrangian coherent structures (LCSs) in the movement of fusaria in the lower atmosphere. Here, we extend this work by examining the relationship between the length of atmospheric sampling intervals with autonomous unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and the recovery of fusaria. UAVs were eq...

During recent years there has been growing interest in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Moreover, the necessity to control and navigate these vehicles has attracted much attention from researchers in this field. This is mostly due to the fact that the interactions between turbulent airflows apply complex aerodynamic forces to the system. Since the dynamics of a quadrotor are non-linear and the ...
